• Get Ness to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Ness in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Jigglypuff
• Beat 350 VS matches
• Complete Classic Mode with any character other than Ike
• Complete Event Match 20
• Get Jigglypuff to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the four methods listed above, you’ll need to face Jigglypuff in a brawl and beat her after satisfying the above conditions to unlock her.
Captain Falcon
• Beat 70 VS matches
• Beat Classic in 20 minutes or less
• Get Captain Falcon to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Captain Flacon in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Marth
• Beat 10 VS matches
• Finish Classic Mode on any difficulty
• Get Marth to join your party in the Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Marth in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Luigi
• Beat 22 VS matches
• Complete Classic Mode on Easy
• Get Luigi to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Luigi in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Lucario
• Beat 100 VS matches
• Complete 5 Target Tests with any character
• Get Lucario to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Lucario in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Falco
• Beat 50 VS matches
• Beat 100-man brawl
• Get Falco to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Falco in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Toon Link
• Beat 400 VS matches
• Finish the Classic mode as Link
• Get Toon Link to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Toon Link in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Sonic
• Beat 300 VS matches
• Get Sonic to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the two methods listed above, you’ll need to face Sonic in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Ganondorf
• Beat 200 VS. matches
• Clear Classic on Hard with Link or Zelda
• Recollect Link and Zelda in the Subspace Emessary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Ganondorf in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Mr. Game & Watch
• Beat 250 VS matches
• Beat classic mode with every character
• Get Mr. Game & Watch to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Mr. Game & Watch in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Snake
• Beat 130 VS matches
• Play 15 matches on Shadow Moses Island
• Get Snake to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the three methods listed above, you’ll need to face Snake in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Rob
• Beat 160 VS. matches
• Get Rob to join your party in The Subspace Emissary
• With the exception of the last of the two methods listed above, you’ll need to face Rob in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Wolf
• Beat 450 VS matches
• Get Wolf to join your party in the Subspace Emessary
• With the exception of the last of the two methods listed above, you’ll need to face Wolf in a brawl and beat him after satisfying the above conditions to unlock him.
Subspace
Just through playing SSE normally... you should unlock the following.
In order of unlocking:
Marth -> Falco -> Captain Falcon -> Lucario -> Snake -> Mr. Game and Watch -> R.O.B -> Luigi -> Ness -> Ganondorf (requires recollection of Link and Zelda in SSE) -> Sonic
After clearing the SSE, if you revisit the ruins, you can find Wolf, visiting the forest will let you find Toon Link and the swamp-ish area will let you find Jigglypuff.

A:Each character has "importance". This meaning that beause of the many overlaping unlocking ways, you might meet the criteria of 2 characters! So they gave each character importance so that you can only unlock each character one at a time.

A:When you see it say *complete* on top, that means that that is all there is to be unlocked.
